Nutro Max Puppy Food- Puppy is VERY SICK

PoochiePooo Aug 31, 2007 02:04 AM

I have spent the last few days taking my puppy back and forth to the vet and emergency room trying to find out why her feces has blood in it and she keeps vomiting. I took all my food in and showed the vet. As I try to figure it out, I ready onling that other dogfs have died from Nutro Max Puppy Food (which has yet to be recalled) and I am sick.

She was off the food as of Tuesday when we took her to the vet. She spent the day on an IV and antibiotics and seemed better. Then we brought her home and she had more food. The next day (tonight) we found ourselves going to the emergency room because she was pooping with some blood, not eating and vomiting what she was given.

I am hoping someone can help me. Is there anything I can do, or is the damage already done? Are dogs surviving from this? She is totally off the food. Isn't drinking or eating, but I took her to the emergency room earlier tonight and she was injected with fluids. I am heading to the vet in the morning, but am desperate for information.

What is the treatment for dogs who catch it in time? Does anyone know? Any advice and information is GREATLY apprecited. Thank you in advance.

I am so sorry about you pups sickness. Did the vet seem to think it was poisened food that should have been recalled? Have you call Nutro for or more information. The treatment I don't know anything about.

Thank you. It seems that the vets are reluctant to even discuss the recall issues. It makes me wonder why. I did push the issue yet, my puppy seemed a little better today. She is being kept and given lots of fluids, antibiotics and being observed today. In all, he let me know that the treatment is the same as if she had been given the toxic food. Luckily my puppy didn't have a lot of the food (only over a month or so). Hope and pray it hasn't hurt her too much. I have saved the food in case I need to send it off to help have it analyzed so this doesn't keep happening to other loved pets.

So glad your pup is feeling better. Yes do send the cans back for testing. Might want to contact the store you brought it from and tell them also what happened.

My prays and hope for a speedy recovery coming your way.
