Osteosarcoma

GeckoNut Sep 02, 2007 09:27 PM

My 8 yr old Husky Mix was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in late March

I have had her since she was approximately four months old-she was found by my brother-in-laws in a country graveyard
Sheba has never been sick one day since we have been living with her and this diagnosis was an real shock to us

I have been doing tons of reading and would like to request a recommended diet or any possible natural based treatment that could help with her condition
Recently-I have been wondering what else that I could possibly do for her with a more natural diet(raw/redmeat?)and any other herbal treatments

After talking many times with my vet-we both decided not to opt for any treatment (amputation-chemo)other than daily dosage of Deramaxx -100 mg for pain and inflammation

This drug seems to be doing an excellent job on taking care of pain and inflamation and is bearing weight on the affected front leg and even back to running at full speed-something which scares the hell out of me as I am worried about the fragility of that limb

This evening -she saw a dog outside our yard and ran full speed back and forth in our large yard like she used to until I could get her to stop
Since she has been on the Deramaxx-she has been bearing full weight in the affected leg and only limps slightly after behavior such as tonight and the limp goes away after she rests

At this time other than her slight "off kilter gate" from the malformation of her shoulder bone and an occassional limp when she is too active-she is still her old self and I am enjoying every day that we have together

Thanks you for letting me ramble and I hope that you will have some suggestions for us

Sandy

Stop all carbohydrates, give raw meat and bones to eat, have your vet give her a shot of vitamin A and D once a week, and give 1000iu of Vit D daily. You might also try flax seed oil and cottage cheese and immune stimulating mushrooms. If possible, try to find a holistic veterinarian who has worked with cancer patients to work with you and your vet.
