Neutering my ACD

808ACD Sep 04, 2007 07:18 PM

Hi all, This looks to be a great site. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations on when is a good age to get my ACD neutered. He did not come with papers so breeding isn't really an option. Also because of this his age is estimated to be about 5 months (based on teeth and size). His molars are beginning to come in and I believe he has 2 (total) on top, not sure on bottom. Our vet is saying we can have him neutered now. However, I have read many things that recommend at least 6 months of age. Do any of you have any thoughts? Thanks and I look forward to gaining and hopefully providing insight as time goes on.

Hi Andrew and welcome to the DogHobbyist. I don't have an ACD but I would say your pup is old enough to be neutered. Generally people wait until 6 months but then some do it as early as 4 months. What is your pups name? If you have any pictures we would love to see them.

With new technology happening every day, spaying and neutering of dogs is happening as early as 6 weeks in some areas. So it's technically "safe" to alter your dog at any point beyond that. I personally wait until they are at least 6 months old because the hormones do help them build muscle a bit.
