Allergys

PanzersMom Sep 12, 2007 01:11 PM

All summer Panzer licked at his feet and belly making them red so I gave him Benadryl and sprayed him down with ACV and he would be fine for a while. Well this past week or so he has been itching really bad again and I havnt seen him itch like this since the winter when I was trying to fix his food allergy which I did. I just started spraying the house down with Febreze and I think it was around the same time he started itching again. How he has allergys to corn and one of the ingredient in Febreze is odor eliminator derived from corn so my question is can this be the reason for him itching? Also he goes to the vet in a few weeks for shots and check up but is there something I can put on his rash (pic below) thats in his front arm pit till then?

Thanks for the help!

From what I have read and researched into allergies regarding my female Shiba Inu I would say there could be a connection between the Febreze and her allergy symptom. With corn being an ingredient in the Febreze that exposes Panzer to the allergen whether he licks something or it's absorbed through the skin. As for the rash you could use a good antibiotic ointment until he can be seen by your vet.

There is ethanol in Febreze and that is corn based- so it's possible that is the cause of the allergen.

That would surely sound like allergies to me.

Both of my dogs have issues with allergies. I totally understand the desire to Febreeze the house as well. The pent up doggie smell is not fun. You may want to consider an essential oil diffuser. They are not a contact item, so that may help.

Allergies are something I am more than familiar with. Both of my dogs have food and environmental allergies. Ehh the old saying goes its not a question of what a bully is allergic to but what it is not allergic to.

With this you know he has a corn allergy, and it appears that both touch and ingestion seem to trigger it. You may have some issues for a time while the febreeze gets rubbed out of the fabric. Covering the couch with a blanket may help, but it will pass. Wiping him down with a damp cloth twice a day may help.

You also might want to consider allergy testing. While not conclusive, it will help determine what other allergens are effecting him. Stop by the Bull Pen sunday and bug PHGuido or APBTX3 about allergies. They are both very familiar with testing and the allergy shots.

Like I said, it isnt if a bully may be allergic but what.
