Senior ToyPoodle has cateract. questions

ultanoleman Sep 12, 2007 06:38 PM

Hello, my toy poodle is about 12 years old now and has cateract and has arthritis. I got the arthritis problem down with supplementation of msm glucasomine cheweable tabs and he walks around now with out sleeping all day looking like crap. Though what supplement would help with his cateract? if there even is anything for it. or perhaps for just general eye health.

thanks

I think you would be better served talking to your vet and see if they can recommend a canine opthalmologist. Some cataracts can be treated, some require surgery but the optho would know for sure. Check in your area to see if there are any veterinary colleges near you. I'm fortunate living in NY and the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine is only an hour away.

Well if you're up for the drive it might be about 3 hours or more. If you look at a map Cornell is located in Central New York in the city of Ithaca at the southern end of Cayuga Lake. I take one of Shiba Inu's there for treatment of glaucoma. They have some of the best opthalmologists in the country working there.
