Need Help -A Life Threatening Sickness?

colorfulcritters Oct 07, 2007 08:49 AM

A stray schnauzzer I'd found is getting sicker and has some kind of mouth infection. It's spitting up and its breath smells horrid. It's also licking it's muzzle alot and panting.

Problem is-and I know this sounds off-the wall-I can't take it to the vet right now because I just don't have the money. I'm alos overseas, so no free services are availabe.

What should I do? Are there any home remedies for the poor gal for now? I should be able to take her to the vet eventually but for now, I'm just broke.

She's eating well, even active, but at night I can here her coughing and spitting up. Believe me, I just don't have any money, at all, so need some helpful advice. I also want to know how serious such an illness can be or if it's life-threatening. If so, I'll see if I can just find a way.

The symptoms you describe are vomiting, panting, mouth odor and infection. The vomiting is abnormal, but all the other symptoms may be secondary to the cause of the vomiting. I can't tell from your message what the problem is. The dog really should be examined by a vet. In the meanwhile, put her on a good immune stimulant and feed her a diet of meat, yogurt and fish oil.

Thanks for the advice. I can feed her canned meat, or beef, if this is what you mean, and of course, I can pick up some yogurt at the store. Will this be sufficient?

About fish oil I'm unsure. A stimulant I have no idea of how to obtain either. And yes, she should see a vet but right now I still can't get her there.

Nonetheless, she's spitting up, not vomitting. Meaning, she sort of drools out her offel, or whatever it is. It's usually all water.

I don't know, but I saw the symptoms coming on by smelling her foul breath, wanted to get her teeth cleaned etc., since they're very filthy. The last vet didn't notice anything serious when I got her checked out though.

But my main concern is if this illness is life-threatening. Therefore, I'll just have to wait, at least for a couple of more days. Hope this isn't too dire.

Get the immune stimulant and fish oil at a health food store. Make sure the fish oil is plain, unflavored and liquid, not emulsified.
