What are your reasons for registering the dog?
If you want to do AKC performance events with this dog, then you can get an "ILP" number from AKC to compete in AKC events. It involves sending in pictures and making sure teh dog is altered.
For breeding papers, that's a bit trickier and not able to be done with AKC. There are other registries though that will give a registration # to a dog. I personally would not do this practice, nor woudl I buy a dog with these papers, but it's done. Most companies are willing to give a person a # for $$.

I researched it, and found that you can register them fixed for performance events, and junior showmanship (kids under a certain age can show them), but otherwise it serves no purpose.
I have changed my mind about the AKC, CKC, UKC in the last few years, they support breeders that pay alot for exclusive rights to papers to sell to us at higher prices. The things is that anyone can get someone who has a registered pair to falsify papers for you, or to claim your puppy was one of theirs. Also this registration is only for breeding and canine beauty competitions really.
Recently I was corresponding with people who breed purebred sled dogs, lots of them who breed performance sled dogs(the way these pure breds became what they are), not mixed breed racers (Alaskan huskies, Eurohounds)but purebred sibes, malamutes, ISD, etc. These people do not use AKC,UKC,CKC, dogs, they use purebreds who are bred for performance not beauty competitions, they say that these organizations have lost all concept as to what a real purebred should be or what the standards really are, with sled dogs most of the judges have never seen a real sled dog in their lives. This is why Sepela Siberians is attempting to get their own registry, trying to keep their bloodlines separate from AKC, etc sibes which have been slowly becoming show dogs (runway models)that are useless on a sled.
My sibe came from AKC champion bloodlines, but he does not fit the AKC standards (he is closer to the AKC standards for a malamute than a sibe, by his build, his weight, size). His breeders did not supply the registration to for buyers at that time, they breed the highest quality dogs and are excellent to deal with, their dogs are gorgeous, and have the best temperments. I noticed that now they give the AKC registration with their puppies, I now know its no loss to not have it.
Besides full registration for events requires a dog that is fully intact (The AKC is all about a breeding pool), I dont believe that you should have to keep your dog intact to be a great pet.
Besides under the AKC/UKC/CKC registration policy that allows fixed dogs to be registered by photos and descriptions, you could register any mixed breed that resembles a purebred as long as its fixed, all about money.
I hope this helps you, I love my sibe and my mixed breed the same with or without any registration, besides Hitler and Stalin set up registrations on people, that wasnt such a good idea huh, it was considered a crime then?
