Diarrhea

Hi Dr. Tobin,

We have a 5 year old German Shepherd. We got him when he was 8 weeks old. Since Day 1 he's been strongly attached to me and follows me everywhere. Only times we get separeted are when I go out and leaves our dogs (we have three dogs) in the house and when my husband takes them for a ride and I stay home. No matter where I go, he's always right by me.

Ever since we got our new puppy about two months ago, he doesn't seem so happy because my attention goes to the puppy a lot of times. Here is one mistake I made : I tried to please the German Shepherd by giving bunch of treats while the puppy was out of his crate. He loves to eat but has a sensitive stomach, so a couple of days ago he's had a bad diarrhea - watery and yellow. So I didn't feed him anything but fresh water. Yesteday I gave him a very small amount of white rice and boiled chicken and yogurt, and he took a pretty much nice and firm stool in the middle of the day. BUT when my husband came home last night he gave him beef jerkey, and this morning his stool went back to the same watery and yellow.

Should I keep feeding him white rice and chicken for a while and make sure that my husband doesn't give him anything extra?
Is there anything I can do for his stress because of the new puppy?

Other than diarrhea, he's the same. As I'm writing this, he's playing with his favorite toy right next to me.

Thank you very much.

I forgot to mention this : his stomach is making a slight noise. You won't notice it unless you sit right next to him though. The stool itself was gushing out and watery but mucousy at the same time. No blood in his stool, no vomit, he drinks fair amount of water but I don't think he's that thirsty.

Give him homeopathic Podophylum 30c 3 times a day until the diarhea stops. If this does not help, you might try homeopathic Lycopodium, which I suspect might be his constitutional remedy.
