uti giardia aggression

kristenmd Oct 21, 2007 06:13 AM

I recently adopted a 7 month old Great Pyrenees. As a rescued pup, she had both types of mange, giardia, coccidia, pneumonia, yeast infection in her ears, parvo, was malnourished and underweight. She was rescued 5 months ago, so most of these things have cleared up.

Faith puddles in her sleep...everytime she falls asleep (in the car, at home, outside..). I took her to a specialist where they did an ultrasound to ensure she didn't have any congenital defects. She didn't. They said she showed granulation in her kidneys, a sign of recurrent UTIs. They labeled her with spay incontinence. She has been on the Proin several times, several dosages without relief. She was also given an injection of estradiol which made her aggressive for about 3 weeks.

She has been on antibiotics off and on for recurrent UTIs. She also got retreated for the giardia, that may have never left the first time. Anything I can give her that:
1. Won't make her aggressive but will help with the spay incontinence?
2. Will assist with chronic UTIs?
3. Kill off any remaining signs of giardia?
4. Assist with calming her/relaxing her around people? (She hasn't been socialized and is terrified of people and tries to nip. I try to take her places and she now wears a muzzle).

Thanks!
Kristen

If she still has a urinary tract infection, as shown through a urine analysis, try adding 1/4 tsp of d-mannose to her food at each meal. Also add 1/2 tsp colostrum to her food at each meal. The Proin can make her more hyper, so this seems contraindicated for her. Working with a good trainer should help with the socialization problems.
