Older Shep Mix Pain Management

dnich555 Oct 21, 2007 12:24 PM

I have an older (14 yr)Shep Mix who is a diabetic. Over the past year she has been losing muscle mass. Had a sonogram taken and Cushings Disease was found along with some sort of mass near the intestines. I made the decision not to have surgery performed or use any cancer killing medications. Seems strange, but right after the sonogram, she began going downhill fast. She is really slowing down. She doesn't want to or possibly has pain and can't go for a walk any more and I pretty much have to hand feed the dog that historically ALWAYS ate as much as she possibly could(within the past few days). I asked her vet for a pain killer and was prescribed Tramadol 50mg twice a day. I have only given this med two or three times within the past week. Not sure if this is best to give her. Now, in the past day she is really weak. When deficating, she tries to stand back up completely, but can't and slumps down and lays there. Do you suggestions for me?

Try feeding her fresh meat, either raw or cooked, whichever she will eat. She should have more energy if she eats. You might also give her Longlife Pet Supplement for her hips and joints.
