Purebred?

dallas_6 Nov 02, 2007 03:05 PM

Ah! So this doesn't really matter, but it's been on my mind ever since my husband's mother commented that my EB didn't look purebred. In the end, it doesn't matter if she's purebred or not, but I just have to know. My EB has the short tail, the wrinkley face, the fat body, the droopy eyes, and the muscular back, but her legs are kind of long. At first, I thought maybe she was an Olde English Bulldog, but when I saw pictures, it didn't fit my EB's description. So I started looking more and more at pictures of EB's when they are around 4 months old, and I noticed that there are slight physical differences between the male and female EB. Is my observation correct? Is it common for some EBs to have slightly slender long legs than others? I have no picture to share, so I'm trying to do this all in words, so excuse me if I sound like a complete idiot. LOL. Thanks a bunch,
Dallas

Honestly it is VERY hard to tell with out a pic. It could very well be an english, olde english, victorian, american. Could also be a mix of any of the above. Where did you get her from?

It's possible your dog isn't purebred if multiple dogs had access to the female before the pups were born. Still, there is genetic differences within breeds and some dogs re just a bit bigger/smaller/heavier/thinner than the standard calls for. Most books that show a breed show the "best" examples of the breed. They typically don't show the variations within a breed other than possible acceptable colors. So more-than-likely your dog is purebred. Also, while growing up pups have akward stages where certain parts of their body are disproportionate to other parts. So, even though your pup is tall now, that may not stay true over time.
