Coloring

Retired1 Nov 11, 2007 09:09 PM

I am new to this forum and seeking some info on English Setter coloring. Could someone explain, or better yet, provide some photo examples, of the various color patters for English? I understand the basic orange belton, blue belton, and tri's, however I've heard terms like "roan", "flecking", and "open marking" and am not sure I have a clear understanding of these. Also, if there are any other terms relating to coloring, feel free to explain those as well. Thanks
BTW, I will be getting my first English pup in about 4 month. Previously, I owned Gordons.

Thanks again

I'm guessing the National English Setter Parent Club would have something on their site about the typical patterns available for the breed. If not, maybe the rbeeder yo uare getting your pup from has a good explanation?

Yes, the National English Setter Cleb as well as the AKC standard for the breed do explain some but only in general terms such as Blue Belton, Orange Belton, and Tri-Color. They dont seem to go into the variations of each.
Perhaps my best source for this will be my breeder. Thanks.
