>>Picking up poo in little plastic bags, only to throw them into a larger plastic bag to take to the curb to be collected and deposited in a landfill (my current strategy), vs. one of those in-ground doggie septic tanks which use enzymes to "digest" the waste and distribute it into the ground.
>>
>>Does anyone have any experience with dog septic tanks, and if so, how much better are they than the plastic bag disposal method? Also, is there a "perfect" place to instal it in the lawn; near the vegetable garden, as far from the garden as possible, near a tree, etc.

>>He's a 60 lb dog, so it's not like I can just let the waste biodegrade!

I previously used a Doggie Dooley system at our last home. The model I used is no longer available, however when we ordered one for the new home, we choose the Super Max which is good for two large dogs.
A few things, if you live in a very heavy clay soil area, installation will be hard. I cant remember where you are at, but winter in WI with one of these takes you back to plastic bags.
But for when weather is above freezing you are good to go.
I noticed very little odor from the product. We used a smaller model with the two boys and it worked great. Be sure to follow the flushing directions. The enzyme application is very important. I dont have a garden, but I would plant away from anything you would plan to eat simply because so many things are carried in feces.
I look forward to the day that I can have one of these again! I did love the product.
