Look...what kind of dog is this?

ladykj Nov 18, 2007 10:00 AM

Pls help. This dog was in our yard on a cold morning. I've taken him in, gave him food and a bath. It's been 25 years since I've had a dog What kind of dog with this grow up to be? What kind of food should I be giving him? I don't even know how old he is but he has all reg teeth and one set of molars. He's very manerable, easy to please and doesn't bother anyone. He plays like a normal puppy but just needs potty training.

Hi and welcome to the board. I'm not very good at this but from what you've said and looking at the pictures, he may have some terrier in him. His paws don't look very big so I don't think that he'll be a huge dog. From what you said about his teeth and the fact that he's not potty trained suggests that he's probably on the young side. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge than I have will stop by and have some suggestions also. Good luck to you and come back and let us know how things are going. He sure is a cutie.

Hi again. You're very welcome. This is a busy week with Thanksgiving but I hope others will give you their opinions. It sounds like you're really enjoying him and I'm sure that he is loving every minute of it.

Hi and welcome to the DogHobbyist. Thank You for taking in the puppy. I'm not to good at this either but I think the pup may look like a Border Collie. He is very young... if he hasn't been to a vet yet you should find one and have him checked out. This is to rule out the possibilities of heartworms or other parasites. Since he is still a puppy you should feed him a good quality puppy food. I would stay away from supermarket brands as they contain more grain than those sold in pet stores.
Please continue to update us on his progress... he is a very cute dog.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

Thanks Bob for your advise
I finally went to Petsmart and you are the 3rd person to say "border collie". I have looked some up and all descriptions and pics of older dogs look just like him! I got some good info and one of the girls there told me he would be a 40lb. dog. Oh My goodness! I cannot have that size dog in my small house. And now that I've seen the pics...that confirms it. Petsmart does free puppy screening/checkups and she gave some local very reasonable vets to see. However, I have 5 yr old twin girls, and now we hate to part with him;but I've decided to put him up for adoption, somewhere we can visit often. Now the trouble is when to let him go? Thanks again for everyones advise.
