triple phosphate crystals/high ph

anneh Nov 21, 2007 06:21 PM

My adopted 5yo female dog has no symptoms/infection but her urinalysis showed a few triple phosphate crystals and a Ph of 8. I do feed her cooked meat and vegetables altho no grains. I usually feed my dogs raw but because she was ill with a very high fever shortly after adopted her (5months ago)I was concerned in case her immune system was not strong so have been cooking her meat. However she appears to be a healthy little girl other than this urine result (btw the high Ph also showed up when I first adopted her). My vet said not to worry but to not feed her fruits and veggies (which she likes as snacks) and to feed her raw meat. Thanks for any help and perhaps more elaboration about diet.

Raw meat and bone is a good foundation for a dog's diet. You might also add some omega-3 fatty acids and a probiotic. The crystals and the high urinary pH indicate an E. coli bladder infection. To get rid of the infection, add 1/2 tsp d-mannose to each meal. The crystals will dissolve with the proper urinary pH (6-6.5) and more dilute uring, which can be attained by giving him increasing amounts of salt and water in his food.

thank you so much for responding. I will get some d-mannose, for some reason I thought it was only used in cases of acid urine and was afraid of using it in case it made her urine more alkaline. I will find a source it. Thanks again
