1.5 year old Chihuahua

breakfastatme Nov 25, 2007 02:55 PM

I just rescued a 1.5 year old female chihuahua and this is my first female dog. She has not yet been spayed. (we are going to get her spayed) We have had her for about 6 weeks. She was doing very well with my 2 mastiffs(both fixed) and my cat and yesterday she tried to bite both the mastiffs when they came near me. She has never done this before. I put her in her room when this happened. Could she be starting her heat? The privious owners could not really tell me anything about her. She needed all her vax and not seen a vet since her puppy shots.
Thank you
Tiffany

Hi and welcome to the board. I have no experience with this but I suppose it could be possible that she is coming into heat. It might be a good idea to get her spayed as soon as possible. Do you have a picture of the little one that you could share with us?

In my opinion the Chi may be establishing herself in the pack. She is claiming you. Separating her from the situation I think was a good idea. Push her away when ever this might happen and say a sharp NO and then ignore her. To much attention is not good either because that is what she is looking for.

Good luck and please post picture.http://www.pethobbyist.com/articles/PhotoGalleryFAQ.html

Thank you for your reply. She is getting better she tried that again and I just told her "NO" and put her down and she hasn't done it again.
