hi, i'm new

Basenjiluver Nov 28, 2007 12:27 PM

Hello, just wanted to do a intro, i'm new here. Love the website. My name is Gina, i'm married with a 3 year old son. We have Mason our AKC 5 year old lab, and Salli is my 5 year old Basenji mix. I also have Chico my 17 year old Meyers Parrot. Salli i found on Petfinder.com after losing 2 other dogs. She was at a rescue in York NE. I live in Lincoln Ne. I did my research on the Basenji breed and decided i wanted to invest in her, and i'm soooooooooooooooooooooooo glad i did. She settled in just fine the minute we got her home. She claimed a spot on the loveseat in front of the windows so she can watch the birds and squirrels. She has a very calm personality, and no doggie ordor. She is best friends with Mason, but aside of him she is very dog aggressive. The owner who had her before chained her in the back yard and forgot her. She was not socialized. But i also hear from others, dog aggression can be part of the Basenji breed. She is extremly gentle with our son, and loves to sit with him, and give him kisses. She is very fast, and stalks things like a cat. She is silent walking through leaves even. She has caught a rabbit, a squirrel, 5 birds and 2 adult blackbirds. She caught those in mid air when they were taking off. Now that is fast. Rescue mixes are the best! She is my 1st mutt, and i'm really glad i got a adult dog instead of a puppy. She has NEVER had a single accident in the house since we got her. We have had her a year as of last week.
Hope to hear from others soon. Would love to hear other's stories of thier dogs!

Hi, Gina and welcome to the boards. So glad that you were able to find us. Pull up a crate and make yourself at home. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I see that you were able to post pictures of your dogs. They certainly are handsome dogs. I'm sure you're kept busy with a son and all the animals but it sounds like you enjoy every minute of it. Hope we'll be hearing more from you. If you have the time, you might also like to join one of our chats. Have fun and keep the pictures coming.

Hi! Glad you joined us. First thanks you for the rescue! I work with rescue groups and when we hear of a rescue finding a forever home, we all feel good.

I have a rescue mixed terrier, one of the best dogs I ever had.

Love the pictures. Keep in touch.

Welcome! What great pups you have! It's so nice when a dog can find a new forever home! Rescues are so special in so many ways. Again, welcome to the boards and more pictures are defiantely in order.

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you have great dogs. I have one Shiba Inu--Artemis--and used to have a foster dog, a Jindo. The Jindo was/is very dog aggressive, but she was otherwise a true sweetie. Shibas and basenjis have a lot of similar qualities.

Again, welcome to the forums.
