lorialcorn2006 Nov 28, 2007 04:29 PM

My dog Asia who is a chow chow lab mix has this unusual bump on her side my husband is in new youk and will be away for a while and I don't know what to do , I guess its painful because she will jump up off the bed itch it and yelp when she does . its about the size of a dime it looks scabbed over but has hair growing out of it . I thought it might be a tick because we live in Florida but I cannot see a tick body . to be honest it looks like she was bit or shot with a bebe its kinda hard and getting bigger . can anyone tell me anything Im really worried I don't drive so its not like I can get her to the vet . I put the frountline on her yesterday will this stuff kill an attached tick I dont know. I looked on the net and all the pictures show a protruding tick body .I do not see anything but a large scabbed over bump .I looked all over the net until I found a place to post this question please help if you can
Thanks Lori

I'm sorry to read this, Lori. It sounds like it's something that is annoying to both the dog and you. The Frontline should help repel the ticks but it won't help an area that may already be infected. Since your husband will be away for a time, is there anyone else you can ask who might be able to take you to the vet and have the vet check it out. I know you don't want it to become infected and get worse. Someone else may also read this have have some better suggestions for you. I hope you're able to get some helps soon. Please let us know how things are going.

sorry to hear about this.. You might want to bring the dog to the vet. My dog had a bump with a scabbed wound a while back, that the vet correctly diagnosed as infection. We got animax ointment and antibiotic pills (for 10 days) to kill the infection. He reacted well to it. I wish you the best.

Another thing you can do is consider using one of those elizabethan (cone) collar. That will prevent her from licking/scratching the wound.
