Older dog with diarrhea leaking stool

Barbsbooklady Dec 02, 2007 12:04 PM

My 14 year old female mix breed has an awful case of diarrhea that began last week. It was just awful and I tried all the home remadies before taking her to my vet. She was put on diphenoxylate tabs 2x a day, and metnonidazolete tabs 2x a day, because her anul glands were also infected, and fortiflora 1x day and bland diet of boiled chicken and rice. She was doing much better until last night, I stopped the diphenoxylate friday because she had not gone since wed. and now she is leaking stool when she is laying down. Any ideas about what this could be and why she is suddenly having such a problem. My vet did a blood test and a rectual and everything was ok except a slight case of cushings which she felt we should wait and see about treating.

Try adding a probiotic at each meal. Her intestinal flora is likely out of balance. If this doesn't resolve the problem, try homeopathic Aloe 30c or colostrum at each meal.
