I am researching a boxer

Zaccaryus Dec 04, 2007 09:18 PM

Ok- I am researching a boxer and want to know what health certificates In can expect from a breeder. Is it acceptable for there just to be OFA credentials or should there be more. I am planning on spending between 700 and 1300, is this a reasonable guestimate? I am also planning on using my dog as a service dog so any advice anybody has on that would be appreciated especially if they know a trainer in the New York area. Thanks and happy holidays,
Zachary

With a boxer, I'd want to be sure the parents had been tested for hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism, since those are common problems for boxers, but I'm sure their are other important tests too. (I remember having a whole checklist for my shiba inu puppy many years ago.) Also make sure the breeder provides a health guarantee. (My dog was guaranteed against genetic disorders for two years.)

I don't know service trainers in your area, but socializing your dog early and getting your dog used to different kinds of people, sounds, scents, and sights will help a lot.

The price range you suggest sounds reasonable.
