Toby the Bull? or Toby the terror!

shuttlebill Dec 05, 2007 11:09 PM

Hi Everybody. I enjoy reading about your pets. Maybe you have some ideas on mine?

Toby is a 12 week old EB who is incredibly active! I was not expecting this from what I had read about the breed previously. He's very loveable and very friendly, but oooh soo hyper.

I think some of this is that he's been shuffled around quite a bit. But it's really piqued since he had to spend the night in the clinic getting nebulized for pneumonia. He's doing much better now, healthwise, but his hyperactivity is getting out of control.

I've tried some tricks like keeping him on the lead in the house, long walks (very productive in the outside environment, but not so much for inside) and some of the 'dog whisperer' tricks.. But he still goes on these little rampages when he's hyper: snapping, barking, gremlin growls, running from room to room...

I'm not sure if caging him when he's like this is the right move. He certainly doesn't respond to authority (NO, or lead pulls) when he's on a tear. More than anything, I'm worried for his safety, 'cause it just doesn't seem right for him to be so tweaked. But it is a little nerve-racking too!

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Puppy training class, definitely! And then go right on into adult training class with him. Make it a positive class, of course.

I expect you are dealing with two things right now. One is his body catching up for growth time missed while he was sick. The other is that puppies do have crazy spurts of energy. It seems to be part of their development. But it is essential to help guide the little rascal--as it sounds like you are doing. Add class!
