X-Large Pom

knomad03 Dec 08, 2007 08:19 AM

My wife and I bought a Pom for my dad and he is now about 6 months old and close to 15lbs but not over weight and is much taller than normal Poms, has anyone heard of this before?

Oh yes. It means the breeding is not according to show standards. But, it could be a healthy dog. And that's still a small dog. In fact, it's just the size dog I like!

Dogs end up over sized and under sized quite often. Hopefully the whole litter wasn't over sized, but it does happen. I'm sure it's a great dog.

Thank you to all that replied. Heres another question, are they spiteful little pooches naturally? When I was growing up we had one and he was spiteful and didnt know if that was typical of them.

They can be- they are a spitz type breed. Some training will help curb that tendency, but there's always going ot be a bit of a stubborn streak about them.

There's really quite a range of temperament. They bark a lot, and you want to be careful how you handle that. It's natural for them, and the best way to quiet them a little is to give them something interesting to do. But accept that there will always be some excitement barking, and do no punish for it. I think doing that causes a lot of the behavior problems with Poms.

They can be very bright and willing workers, and being a little larger would be a promising thing for that. Find a good class and have a world of fun. They are smart and fun!
