Skin problems

PanzersMom Dec 30, 2007 05:01 PM

As most of you know by now my Shepherd mix has skin problems. Back in Oct I was told by the vet allergys and that he will be fine when winter comes well winter is here and if anything its worse. Iv tryed differnt kinds of food to see if he had allergys to it being on Wellness Fish and Sweet Potato right now but dosnt seem to be helping and matter of fact he now has pimples looking things on his face. Im gonna be looking into a differnt vet and have him tested but want you all to look at his pictures (link below) and tell me what test should I start off with. I was told thyroide test but then was told he is to young for thyroide problems (hes a year and a half). Oh and one more thing I look back at video tape of him when he was 3 months old and it looks like the itching started then but not getting bad to now.

Thanks for any help you all can give!

The three things I would look at first are: thyroid, parasites, and nutrition. You can have your vet draw blood and send the serum to Dr. Jean Dodds in california for a thyroid panel. Also, have your vet do a scraping of one of the red areas to look for mites. Take your dog off of commercial food and feed only chicken and flax oil or cod liver oil for 3-4 weeks. See what these show as far as improvement goes.

Do I cook the chicken and flax oil or is there a food that has them in it?
