a lot of poop....

hunterjackson Jan 01, 2008 10:18 AM

Hello all. We have a 'newer' puppy. We have had her since 5 weeks (rescue), she is now 3 months old and growing like a weed! Now a bit over 20 lbs. She is a Pitt, Boxer, Mastiff mix...a sweetheart with a bunch of energy.

She eats the amount the vet recommends 3 times a day (nearly the equivalent of 1.5 handfulls per feeding). She does not get table scraps, but does get a couple of treats during training time.

The food she is on is VF Puppy, a no bi-product, no corn/soy/wheat etc formula. It's nearly completely chicken meal (first ingredient).

Yet...she poops a lot. Probably about 5-7 times a day with each bowel movement being close to the size of my 80 lb yellow lab. Any thoughts?

Is this safe? Here are some pics, enjoy.

Be sure to have a stool specimen checked for parasites.

We had a fecal done at 6 and 12 weeks. All is good there. She never has diarrhea, its good and solid.

That seems excessive to me. She's not digesting her food well from the sounds of it. You may want to try a different brand and make sure to tell the vet at your next check up.
