New Member & New Husky (videos)

JayBarnes Jan 02, 2008 07:39 PM

Hey, I'm a new member on the forum. Ive read most of the posts and topics on the husky forum and have found some very good advice and information. I've had my husky for about 2 months now and he is around 3 months and 2 weeks old. He's the first husky I've owned. I'm determined to make him the best dog he can be, the dogs I have had before I've thought of as just dogs and not really a part of the family. Ive changed that with Kaiser and hopefully I am up to the task of shaping him into a great dog. Below are some videos of Kaiser. If you have any helpful info. regarding obedience training, making yourself the pack leader, or just anything helpful, please share it with this new husky owner. Thanks a lot and enjoy the videos.

And another when he was a little younger. I think 9 weeks old in this video.
One more question for you husky owners, how big do male Siberians usually get? I've heard about 60 - 65 lbs, but I would like to hear from owners.

Boy, your little guy sure is adorable and very well behaved! Thanks for sharing the videos.

As far as how big they get, our Sibe, Bella, is just over 3 years old and and has topped out at 39lbs. She came from a big litter (9 Sibes) and her mom is relatively dainty like our Bella, and her father is a bit bigger.

Sibes can really vary in weight...I think some females can top out as slim as 35lbs and some larger Sibes can top out around 65 and maybe even a little bigger depending on how thick their coat is.

There are actually 2 types of sibe, one is the smaller racing type (AKC standards, 30 something to 50 lbs for females, and 40-55 lbs for males, with 65 lbs being a very large male. Then there are frieghting sibes, they are typically closer to AKC malamute standards which are about 75 lbs or a bit more.
My sibe Duke is a 2 year old male, he had large parents, but he far outgrew both. His dad was 65 lbs, his mom was 55lbs, hes now 78lbs with a thin stomach, and huge chest and muscles.
My sibe mix is a year old now, he was 81 lbs a few weeks ago.

I can't grab videos, but I bet they are fun to watch. WElcome to the forum and ask away on question you have. Obedience and a sibe is all about being consistent and having a positive attitude. I find clickers work best for training and negative attention is still attention for these guys so it's best to set them up to succeed rather than punish for mistakes. Have fun with your new pup and post more pics when you can.
