If you are concerned aobut your dog getting picky about meals by giving him fresh meat, then have your dog work and do tricks or obedience commands for the really good meat protion of his meals. No one says meals have to come from a dog's bowl. Make it a reward. Smaller meals more frequently is alctually easier on a dog's stomach overall.
I do competitive agility with my dogs and weekends where we have trials, my dogs don't get fed their kibble from a bowl. Instead, I have it in a tupperwear and it's soaked in low salt chicken broth. After each run (there are about 5 runs a day), my dogs get a portion of their daily meal from the comntainer as well as some cheese cubes, hot dogs, bacon or eggs.
www.dogaware.com has a whole bunch of info about food, grading foods, and choosing foods for your dog. Read that site and make your own choices. It also gives availability as well- and since you are in Canada- Orijen dog food is made there and should be readily available if you want to go the kibble route.
