Carpet cleaning products

cowgirl640 Jan 06, 2008 11:17 PM

I was wondering what you all thought on carpet cleaners. I got a mini dachshund puppy and of course he came with the messes..ha. I am looking for a product that will make the smell go away for him so he doesn't go back to that spot and do it again. That seems to be the problem. He has less accidents when he is in areas that don't smell like old accidents. Thanks for you imput!

Most enzyme cleaners work for the purpose you are discribing. Nature's Miracle is the one I've used most often and had the most success with in the past.

Good luck with your new puppy- that sadly is the typical response to the stresses for new pups.

Here are a few tips that might help with the housetraing.

1. If you walk in the room and find a mess dont discipline cuz if it happened 5 mins algo the puppy isnt gonna remember and wonder why its getting the punishment so you have to catch the pup in the act.

2. Dont let the pup have run of the houe he/she must be in the same room with you at all times so you can look for signs of having to pee. Also take out as soon as the pup wakes up, after it eats, before it naps and after playing.

3. Next time he/she messes in the house take an old rag to clean it up then place the rag outside. When you take the pup outside take him/ her to the rag to sniff. He/she will smell its sent and should start to get the idea.

4. Have a word like "potty" or something to keep saying while puppy is sniffing. When pup finally goes say good boy/girl and make sure you say it while pup is going not when done so the pup knows that the praise was for the potty and not for whatever it was doing after.

Remember a pup wont have full control over its blatter till about 16 weeks old so letting out as much as you can is the key.

Hope these tips help and good luck with the puppy.
