Fun things to do with dog

megr18 Jan 10, 2008 05:51 PM

Hey everyone, does anyone have any suggestions of some fun bonding things to do with your puppy? I just got a new mini schnauzer puppy and I want him to think of me as the pack leader. Thanks.

Taking walks is my all-time favorite thing to do with a dog. Make sure before you take him out that his veterinarian approves of his immunity, though. And stay on pavement to reduce the risks of his picking up a terrible disease.

He will need grooming, so start doing that now before it is so needed. Take your time and make it pleasant. You know things are going great when he starts dozing off as you work!

Teach him to fetch. This is best started in puppyhood, and it helps a dog forever relate to people.

You can find more ideas in the articles on grooming, retrieving and bonding (titles are in alphabetical order) at the link below my signature.

Make sure he is immunized properly and lots of walks with your pup.
That will help you bond and socialize him also, so very very important.

This article is great I think.
Teaching him how to play ball is a must I think. And you can play indoors or out which makes it great.
I recently got a dog from rescue who had no idea what a ball was, sad.
Hide and seek, start simple and work up. Pups love it and its fun!
You can just go into another room behind a door and call the puppy to find you. Or outside, just behind a tree.
Get a kong with some treats in it and play hide and seek with it. At first simple, like sit on the floor and just put it behind you.
Start working on sit and maybe paw, come when called.
Most important thing ever, everything should be FUN!
You want the pup to think you are his safety and the most important thing in the world.
