I adopted a 1.5 year old chi in November of 2007. I always said "there is no way in HE** that I will ever let my dogs go potty in the house." "Not even on potty pads. If you can't take them to go outside and get them to go then you are LAZY!!"

Alright.... When I first adopted her it was chilly, but no snow. I was able to get her to go but only on a leash in the front. If I let her out in the back yard she sits but the door and cries. (FYI it is winter in Wisconsin) Since the snow If I put her on a leash and she sits on my feet.

Yes I did!!! I broke down and I bought some potty pads. She pees on them when she feels like it. When she doesn't pee on the pad and I don't catch her in the act I just clean it up and go on with the day. When she does potty and poop on the pad I praise her and give her treats and kisses. But she get happy/excited every time she potties, even when it is not on the pad. What am I doing wrong. It is something that I am doing,But what?? The family I adopted her from had a small pen made of wire. they put her in it and she potties and then they would bring her in. Any ideas for a small light weight pen I could keep in the yard and small enough that I could move it around when it snows.
I have also tried to put her in the pantry with only enough room for her to lay down and a potty pad....She sleeps on the clean potty pad. She isn't getting it. What should I be doing?
Please help..... I have got to be confusing her.
