Real Dog Bones for small dogs? HELP!!

tala Jan 27, 2008 02:32 PM

I have 2 small adopted chihuahua's. They don't like chewing on the bones that would be good for their teeth. I've tried rawhide in various forms, those green dental bones, etc. So I find now that the grocery stores don't sell the bones you used to be able to get. I started trying to buy steaks like T-Bone so I could give them a bone. So 1. any suggestions on getting natural bones for them....and 2. any suggestions on getting them to take to the rawhide or green ones or any other thoughts?

I just finished giving them each a T-bone and I notice it did a great job on the front teeth but not the back teeth. Seems the grocery stores don't cut their own meat and the stuff they receive is all boneless. I did find at Albertson's you can ask them to cut some bones on Friday...

By the way, buying the T-Bones (I eat the steak...is a little expensive)!! I've determined that the bones have to do it because these dogs have such small mouths I can't figure out how to brush effectively.

Hi,
Gee, the only bones I've given to my Shih Tzu, Katie are the Greenie Bones. For some strange reason, she licks a hole in the center and then starts on the ends. I do throw the ends away when they get too small for fear that she might try and swallow too big a piece. I also buy the bigger ones now since the smaller ones don't last very long. She does have nice white teeth though and she's twelve years old.

Find a small mom and pop butcher shop and ask them to help you out. Typically they are wonderful for getting oy uwhat you want and I find I get much better cuts of meat from them than at major grocery stores.
