Ear crop in KY

aerowenn Feb 04, 2008 05:25 PM

I have a 9 week old male dobe, and I've been seeking a skilled vet desperately in the last few days to do his ear crop.

The breeder recommended me to one, but his price and distance are right on the edge. Anyone know of a very skilled vet in the KY area that could do this procedure?

Also the vet I was recommended to uses a laser, the local vets (in town) do it by surgery (stitches and so on). Which is better, laser sounds better of course but I'm not sure.

I would strongly consider the vet recommended by the breeder. This surgery and the recuperation from it occurs at a highly critical development time for the dog's temperament. And the breeder, if you trusted him or her enough to get a puppy from, is probably right on target.

I work at a vet office in FL. And I do know there is far less bleeding involved with laser ear cropping. You will still have the stitches, but the bleeding is greatly reduced. IMHO, if you have a choice, go laser.
