Pain in the neck

newbieowner Feb 06, 2008 11:54 AM

My husband recently got a 5 year old CKC registered Black lab. He's a pain in the neck. Constantly chewing on my daughters toys... chewing on socks or any clothing, blankets, tries to get up on the couches, fights with my miniture pincher (spelled wrong) I just don't know what to do.. and he barks ALL THE TIME> We crate him or leave him on the back porch when we're not home, and our neighbors are constantly complaining, you can hear him barking 30 or more feet from our house. It's obscene... any suggestions????

OH AND.. he's constantly underfoot.. now he's a BIIIIIG Lab, I've never seen one this big before, he's a brute.. always in the way.. jumping on my one year old daughter.. i have no idea what to do with him. He's my husband's dog, but I stay at home.. hubby works 70 hours a weeek, so I'm the one having to deal with him all the time. HELP PLEASE!

Labs are very high energy dogs that need something to do mentally and physically or they get bored and destructive. This dog needs someone to play with him and talk him on long runs to wear him out. A person who is working 70 hours a week just can't do that. Do you have an hour to work out and minimally walk this dog? A run would be better. An obedience class would be nice for this dog as well.

I wish there was some magic cure for a bored understimulated dog, but there just isn't. A great run and some obedience classes are your best bet here.
