WHY didnt anyone tell me?

advertiserlove Feb 15, 2008 10:17 PM

My brother recently brought home a rescued German Shepherd. She's two years old. I don't care much for little dogs [no offense to anyone here] & so I was pleased to hear about the new addition to our household.

My oh my, I used to think that Dalmatians & Standard Poodles were the most impressive dogs around, along with Great Danes...but WOW German Shepherds are so amazing! I never knew that they make such great pets, I always thought they were aggressive & high strung.

I love German Shepherds so much now that I have decided to rehome one myself sometime this year. Theres alot of them on Craigslist in case anyone is thinking about purchasing from a breeder. *coughBADcough* PLEASE rehome one instead.

Alright, well sorry for the poor grammar. I just wanted to give my two cents.

Nice to see you discovered the common misconception about GSD's. A friend of mine has always had German Shephards and I have always known them to be wonderful dogs and big clowns! lol
When you do decide to rehome a GSD please be sure to tell us all about it.

I have always loved GSDs- they are just a bit too large for my household right now with young kids and a little less time to exercise them than what they require.

We are currently fighting legislation in my state that is against them and it's frustrating trying to convince the ignorant how wonderful the breed really is. So it's nice to read posts such as yours.

There is no companion more loyal or noble than a GSD. We have had them for over 17 yrs and I cannot say enough for the breed.

Our insurance co increased our homeowners because we have an "aggresive" breed. What a joke. GSDs are not aggressive by nature. They are well-centered, loving, loyal, regal and yes they are protective but they are also of such high intelligence that their response to a perceived threat is always adequate and never over-the-top.

If you have children, a GSD will be the best thing you ever acquired. They love and protect children 24-7, yet they are so gentle and kind to them. Of all the breeds...I believe that GSDs are the dogs that can truly feel love for their family.

I was told once that a GSD's intelligence level is akin to that of a 5yr old child. My opinion is that it's closer to a child of 8 or 10 yrs.
