Ok, for starters a snake grows according to the abundance of food offered. To the extremes I have seen carpets reach adult size in less than a year and I have seen carpets that where 4 years old that weren't much over 3 1/2ft. Now these are extremes and most snakes should reach adult size by 2-3years of age if not over or under fed.

As far as cages, a good general rule of thumb is that the lenth of the cage shouldn't be less than half the lenth of the snake. Of course if its an aborial cage it is height not lenth you would be measuring and of course the more space you can afford the better.
