Help! My ESS wont stop jumping up

sirhank Feb 28, 2008 11:26 AM

I have a 10 month old Field bred ESS. My husband is trying to train him for hunting but he is also a indoor pet. We are having trouble training him to be a well-behaved house dog. He jumps up on everyone and everything, knocks over everything on the counters and has begun to try to jump up to the stove while I am cooking. I am concerned for him and nothing we try works with him. He is very stubborn and doesnt learn anything in the house. His hunting training is going well, he knows sit, come and stay. But in the house all bets are off and he reaks havok. We also have a small Lhasa Apso and he torments her constintly. Ripping through her harnesses at a rate of 1 a month. We love him and desire for him to learn the ways of the house. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

"Nothing in Life is Free" is a method of making your dog work for everything--for food, affection, going out, etc. It works wonders. (If you google it, several sites and explanations will come up.)

Also, you might want to leash your dog to you in the house. When you're cooking, you can stand on the leash to keep your dog from jumping up. Ignoring and turning around (in other situations) can also help, since your dog is doing this for attention (and to some dogs, any attention--good or bad--is better than none).
