Help...dog sick?

Bones82 Mar 11, 2008 11:08 AM

I have a 11 week old pure bred German Shepard that I picked up last Friday. He was very relaxed and has been ever since I brought him home. He was on Pedigree Puppy Chow but I have been slowly swapping him over to Blue Buffalo. The only way I can get him to eat is to mix chopped turkey or chicken liver in with his kibble. He will not touch the food otherwise. He sucks down a ton of water and does nothing but lay down all day unless I go outside. He follows me every where I go and when I get there he just lays down. I know he was not pulled from his mom until Friday so I don't know what kind of effect that has. He weighs 21 pounds and turned 11 weeks yesterday. Any help would be appreciated.

That sounds like normal puppy behavior to me. That's what my puppy will does anyways. Most puppies tend to sleep a lot. Have you had your checked for hip dysplasia? Dunno if I spelt that right. Try weaning your pup outta meat if you don't plan to do it all it's life. I know Buffalo Blue will make it's own gravy if you add some water to the kibble. You could try that.

My puppy weighs about the same as yours so I feel better about that. Thought she might be growing to fast. Haven't had a large breed puppy in years.

Might want to bring the puppy to a vet and have things checked out. What worming schedule are you using? Puppies do sleep quite a bit, but no puppy should be passive or lacking in energy when they are awake. Go to the vet and make sure everythign is fine. It's just the safest thing to do for these kinds of questions.
