Ages for Dog Pregnancy

She mated with a stray dog and I'm not sure what to do now she might be pregnant. Any suggestions, since I'm now responsible?

I wanted to get her spayed but thought she was still too young. How old does a female have to be before she falls pregnant?

Can you make dogs have an abortion? I know that these pups will have a hard life, and my original intention was to help this street dog out and then get her spayed. Finances and time eluded me.

See the veterinarian right away, and spay eliminating the pregnancy may be possible. She should be carefully checked, but a lot of vets do it just fine.

At animal shelters across the US they are spaying puppies at about 6 weeks old before the pups are adopted out. Generally speaking, most of my dogs have been altered at 6 months, but I did have a girl come into heat at 5 months old once and hadh er spayed right after that.

I'd say get your pup to the vet and chat with the vet. Not all male dogs tie in with a female when she's receptive and ready so it's possible nothing came of this, but if there's an unaltered male with access to an unaltered female eventually it will happen and altering at that time is more expensive and more invasive on the female. Better to do it earlier rather than later with those risks.

I'm hoping she hasn't gotten pregnant, but we'll see. I was thinking she was too young. Perhaps it's just that she's attracting the males but not yet capable of getting pregnant?

I can't get her spayed just yet. But I plan to.

Thanks

If she's attracting males, she can get pregnant.
