Bulldog with Stomach Tumor

abukuchick Apr 06, 2008 07:40 PM

My family has had a wonderful female bulldog, Elizabeth, for the last 10 years. I understand that for bulldogs the normal lifespan is about 9-10 years so she has had a good long life. Recently she started vomiting and stopped eating so my mother took her to the vet. X-rays showed a mass, and they werent sure if it was in/on her stomach or liver. She also had enlarged kidneys. The next day they got her bloodwork and determined that the mass is not cancer, and her kidney and liver functions were normal. She is now on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice and is eating ok, but vomits with anything else given to her. Is there anything more we can do for her? She's scheduled for an ultrasound week after next so we should know more then. I just want to be sure we explore all avenues to make her feel better since she has been such a special girl.

If there is a chance the dog has cancer, stop all carbohydrates, as they feed the cancer. Chicken is fine. If she vomits often, you cn give her some licorice root, or ginger root, if she will accept it. Powdered slippery elm bark added to the food can also help. It would help to know specificly what this mass is, if not a tumor.

Thank you for your advice. The vet told my mom that according to the bloodwork it isn't cancer, but I personally don't know how they can tell for sure just from that. I will pass this info along and I will post more details after her ultrasound next week.
