Floppy ears, help!

aerowenn Apr 19, 2008 12:00 AM

Well I have a 20 week old male, his ears are cropped, and I've been taping them since he had them cropped at about 11 weeks or so. Anyhow, I've seen them stand good several times after taking them down, and I'll let them stay for a day or two thinking I'm done, then they start flopping over... toward the middle of his head. Like they are bending backwards. He can hold em up occasionally when this happens, but usually a few hours after the first sign, they go that way every time he "perks". Should I keep taping and give a calcium supplement? How long is going to be the limit to whether or not taping is going to make a difference?

keep posting - sometimes it can take up to a year or more to get ears to stand. Can you post a picture?

Hi,

Do not give calcium to your Doberman puppy. This will not help the ears. It will do more damage than good to the joints.

After removing the tape, massage the ears. Do not let down on the massages. It takes a lot of patients, but continue to massage and work on the ears. If they flop the other way, re-wrap them.

It could take up to a year or more with today's ear trims, but stay at it. The reward will be nice strong ears.

I hope this helps.
