urination problem

bigburrito18 Apr 22, 2008 08:55 PM

our girl tasha is very submissive and urinates everytime she "thinks" shes in trouble. we cant even look at her the wrong way or raise our voice and shell squat or roll over and pee. shes about 8 months old and was given to me by my mothers friend who didnt want her anymore. i dont really know what went on with her background. all i know as that she was kept out side with other dogs around drunk men who i assume didnt treat her right. she is potty trained and lets us know when she wants to go out. what can my boyfriend and i do to get her out of these bad habbits?

Read the article "Submissive Urination" at the link with my signature. The article titles are in alphabetical order, so it's near the bottom of the list. Also would be a good idea to review some of the ones under "Housetraining," to make sure you are not having problems because of overlooking anything in that area.

You've got to build up her confidence. That doesn't mean coddle her and treat her like she's fragile. It just means give her structured routine, a positive reinforcement training class or two, and teach her that humans really are nothing to fear. I've dealt with "soft" dogs before and it's a lot of fun to train them with a clicker because they really think they are training you to give them treats. It builds their confidence fast and they know what is expected of them. By building the confidence, she'll be more resilient to things and will probably stop peeing. The peeing could be a medical issue as well though so you may want to have her checked by the vet.
