How to tame/ What breed is this?

kleb68 May 16, 2008 02:53 PM

Hey everyone, im trying to adopt this girl. Not sure how old she is, but the owner is giving her to the humane society soon because of her crazy hyper activity and so far no ability to learn or obey. She literally has 1 speed, jumps on counters tries to jump off the balcony cannot walk on a leash at all, even with no distractions around she chokes herself and is only on 2 legs most the time. When you try to hold her she will go down to her back to kick you away and then just takes off and jumps on everything and everyone.
Yea shes been kenneled for I dunno but most part of the day, only let out for poo so far I seen. They cant handle her.

Anyways, I just found out she has been to the shelter 4 times???!!? wow.

They say she is a belgium shepherd, After researching online I know theres no way she is that breed. She has a long tongue that she cant keep in her mouth if its open

This is a dog that needs EXERCISE! Enough to tire her out. Along with some obedience classes. Her high energy just needs to be channeled in the right direction. Bet she would love agility! Walks plus playing fetch with her would be good too. As far as what breed ,looks like a mixed breed possibly with some German Shepherd in her.

I would have to agree that this pup is need of a lot of excercise. I would also look into the NILF program for her. This is the Nothing In Life is Free program where your dog gets no reward until they perform a small task for you first. A Google search will lead to plenty of links regarding this program. It's kind of hard to tell but there may be some Terrier in your dog.

Not exactly sure of the breed, but she seems like a dog with a huge excess of energy and has never had an outlet to get rid of it that is acceptable. If she were mine, I'd take her on a LONG bike ride and/or put a back pack on her and run her. I might even fit her with a harness and have her pull me around. Basically, she needs her body to be worn out a bit before she can think and listen to commands. She's a very high energy dog with a lot of drive and she needs to use that energy up.

Good luck with her- I actually really like dogs with that much enthusiasm, but the average household can't handle it.

I sent you an e-mail, but registered and posted some pics of my Emma in my gallery (I attached one for you to see here). Don't they look like sisters?? She had a sister the Humane Society named Rose. Her name was Daisy when we got her at 7 wks old, but we immediately changed it to Emma.

Let me know if you found out the breeds... again, her mom's pic looked like she was a dark brown Pitt Bull Terrier Mix, but there's no definite on the dad. We think MAYBE German Shepherd... we keep joking that she's part Coyote... you never know here in North Texas!! LOL!

Very nice picture! Except for the larger ears Emma could almost pass for a Shiba Inu. How big is she?

Thanks, Bob! I had looked at those when she was little, and we thought maybe she could be part Shiba... but we weren't sure. She's 25lbs as of Tuesday's vet visit and she's now about 22 weeks old. Those pics were taken at 16 weeks. After some research yesterday, we thought that she might be part Basenji. Her personality, howling and characteristics seem pretty close to one... she's a little NUT! LOL! Here's a full-body pic of her taken at 16 weeks.

As for breed - there's no telling- she looks like your classic mutt. And thats a good thing.

As for the energy level- this would not be a great apartment dog. She needs a yard and preferably a playmate. As others have said you'll need to spend a good bit of time devoted to excersizing this dog.
