vestibular syndrome in 14 year old

Barbsbooklady Jul 07, 2008 09:55 PM

My 14 year old mixed breed is suffering from a 2nd attack of vestibular syndrome. I took her to the emergency vet last night and they did not seem to think it unusal for a dog to have another attack. She was just getting back to her old self after the 1st attack in the begining of May. I had done some research, but did not think this was something that would happen again. Does this seem unusal and should I seek another opinion? I was considering making another trip to my regular vet just to let them know that it had happened again.

These are generally caused by inner ear infections or by strokes. If the emergency clinic was unable to determine which, treat your dog for both possibilities. Have your vet put her on an antibiotic for two weeks, and get Nattokinase from a health food store, giving her one capsule or softgel every 2 hours for the first two days, then one dose twice a day for up to 2 weeks, then, as a preventative, one capsule daily from then on.
