Vomiting

teamgenji Jul 14, 2008 06:05 AM

Hi Dr. Tobin,

One of our dogs, she's about 10 1/2 years old, got sick about 15 minutes ago. I could see undigested pieces of carrotts that I gave her late last night. After vomiting, she just laid down there and doesn't move at all. She seems to want to sleep. What should I do now? Thank you very much.

Just a little update :

She still hasn't moved (I think she has nausea) but finally laid down on her side. And she had a few sips of water.

Btw, I haven't changed her diet, which she eats raw food.

Hi again. I'm sorry to keep posting here.

It's been almost 12 hours since she vomited, and she only got sick once. I think the reason why she got sick this morning was because her stomach was empty. I fed her around 6 in the afternoon yesterday.

But actually she has another problem, her back legs. She's been suffering from minor arthritis for the past few years, and I've noticed that her back legs and hip area were kind of stiff a few days ago. But yesterday afternoon my husband took her out for a longer walk (what was worse, she chased three rabbits in the big field) and she did look stiff last night.

Now she has a problem getting up (standing up) from sleeping position. But once she gets up, she starts walking fine even though she's stiff. It seems like the more she moves the better she gets. I'm sure she overdid it in the field having way too much fun.

I've been giving her longlife and fish oil and raw diet. Anything else I can do for her?

Thank you again.

Give her homeopathic Rhus tox 30c, one pellet once a day, away from food.

Thank you, Dr. Tobin!

I have another question.

It's been more than 48 hours since she showed the sign, and she seems most uncomfortable when she gets up in the morning after sleeping all night. I just took her for a ride (no problem jumping up into a car, and we have a huge SUV) and she walks just fine (still a bit stiff though), so I see that actually kind of forcing her to get up and walking her is helping her to release the pain. My first question is I wonder how much and how often I should walk her. I don't want to overdo it like we did last weekend.

Probably swimming is the best for her, but she hates water. She doesn't even like her paws get wet. So that's not something we can consider.

Thank you again in advance.

Let her tell you what is best for her. If she doesn't like to go into water to swim, don't force her. If she wants to go for a walk, that is fine too, as long as you stop when she is getting tired. If you walk in a widening spiral, it will be only a short distance home.
