Garlic is safe for both dogs and cats. Questions about garlic arise since onions have been shown to cause anemia in some cats, and since cats are somewhat related to dogs and onions are related to garlic, could it cause problems? First of all, garlic, in amounts a dog or cat would consume, has never been implicated in anemia. It has been used for a long time as a flea preventative in both dogs and cats. To recap: garlic is perfectly safe in dogs and cats, and onions are safe, in reasonable quantities, for dogs. Don't give onions to cats.
