Turkish Kangals

rob_sleeper Aug 07, 2008 03:35 PM

Hello everyone,

I just have a question about Turkish Kangal dogs. Do the Turks breed Kangal dogs a specific way than how breeders in the US do? I've noticed that Turkish breeders dogs are to an extent, more "viscous" and a lot more protective than than Kangal dogs in the US.

Thanks everyone,

Robert

They are beautiful dogs. You think not the breeding, but the training is making the difference?

Hi Robert... I had never heard of the breed before this post and had to look them up. They are a great looking dog. With their temperment I would say they are more of a product of how they are raised and their environment as to how belligerent they may be.

I don't know much about the breed overall, but when dealing with dogs from a different country- typically when they get imported into the US, the US breeders try to maintain the original characteristics of the breed, but many times the temperaments get gentler. I attribute it to US culture being less fogiving of dogs being normal dogs.
