Shilo again!

MacsWife Aug 30, 2008 06:32 PM

Wanted to let you guys know that Shilo is becoming quite the good boy after our trials and tribulations! We now are able to leave the house with him NOT in his crate, with no destructive behavior! He had company yesterday, SHboom (from the Shiba Inu forum) and his wife came to take a look at my boy. He LOVED them (I think he liked Mrs Shboom VERY much!) and I'm pretty sure they took a liking to him too. He was better behaved with them than with most company! Made me proud. He is still dumping his food out of his dish, which is now a rather large crock....but eventually he eats. I have tried the twice a day feeding, but since he seems to only eat in the afternoon/evening, twice a day is just not happening. He usually comes when I call him, has taken to eating ice cubes instead of his doggie cookies, and the diet .... well he gets 4 cups per day as recommended by his vet. Shboom gave me his best thoughts on Shilo as far as weight and even mentioned how happy he looks! I don't feel quite like a failure any more! Still have not completed a training/obedience course but we work on it alone together....we'll have to see what happens. Took him to visit my groomer's dogs and he did well with them. When we go to the lake to walk he is ALWAYS eager to meet other dogs but without knowing how their owners feel about it, I keep him pretty much to himself. And ALL people are "his people"...he loves to greet our customers and any company that shows up.
So! We'll keep working on making him perfect, and run and play and have a blast while doing it. Thanks for all of your help when I was on here before asking questions!!

It was nice that Shboom could come over and meet Shilo. He's very dog savy and can trouble shoot with the best of them.

Have fun with Shilo and keep up the good work. Dogs are very good at teaching us lessons we need to learn.

Yes we were over to see Shilo this past Friday and he was quite the good gentleman. He is a great looking GSD and you can tell by the happy face that he just loves being where he is. Being around dogs and having 3 of our own was probably one reason he was so good. Most non dog people simply don't understand. Shilo is not as overweight as he was made out to be and if kept at the weight he is at would make it ideal. I'm sure on my way to and from the dog show at the end of the month we just might be meeting again!
