post partum care

mrslate Sep 12, 2008 05:52 PM

Hello,
I am actually into reptiles and found my way through kingsnake forums. I just took in a stray off the street. It is a "pit mix". I have been around true pitbulls and once owned a bull terrier. I know how to act around dogs. This is the SWEETEST dog I have ever come across.Very obedient, willing and eager to please. Someone bred her, took the puppies and abandoned her. Her nipples are still hanging and some vertabrae is showing. Skinny. Looks much better after 2 days of feeding. Animal control will destroy her so she is here with me. Seems healthy otherwise. Solid stools after a few runny ones. Advice?
Thanks.

I should add I do not think this dog is much older than a year.
I would actually classify her stool as semi-solid.
Thanks again.

more time to eat and rest and she looks better already. found out she has a broken lower incisor, too. no problem eating, though. well, thanks anyway.

I don't have any experience with pregnant dogs, but my guess is you are doing exactly what she needs already- feeding her well and providing a safe place for her to recover. Good for you and enjoy your new found friend.
