Infected Anal Glands in Pharaoh Hound

Squeakey Sep 17, 2008 06:18 PM

Hello,

Seth, my 6 yr old Pharaoh boy has had infected anal glands, about one year ago and was almost taken out but thankfuly cleared up after a long bout with antibiotics.

They are infected again. This time he is on antibiotics for one month, which I'm told this is not normal for anal gland infection by the vet.

So, now I have him on ScienceDiet, I believe, RD which is a high fiber food. My question is: Will he need surgery or will a high fiber diet be enough to keep this from happening...again!

Thank you,

Sheena and Sethius Apophis-will work for lights

You don't mention which antibiotic he is on, but the best indicated antibiotic for abscesses is clindamicin. You might want to add homeopathic Silica 30c, as it is indicated both for abscesses and often for sight hounds. I would try this before going for surgery.
