Update on Butch and more

Gwensgang Sep 18, 2008 08:24 AM

The first thing I want to do is thank everyone for their thougths and prayers. It certainly helped to get through Sunday night. Which, by the way, was a really long night. The winds were horrific (is that a word?) on the way to the hospital, the hospital was generator operated, so all of their out patient and stat care patients were at the same ED that we were ... however, all I had to say was chest pain and were were in a room. Janie told you all the good news... no heart problems at all. ::: phew :::
When we got home, we actually thought that we were going to have power. However, even though most of the Southside (our end of town) did have power ~ including the houses on the other side of the street ~ our side of the street was black. I set the alarm on my cell phone and crawled into bed for a 2 hour *nap* before getting up for work.
Monday Butch tried to get an appointment with his cardiologist regarding his super high blood pressure (per the ED doc)and was refused. This is the doctor that has been treating him for his high blood pressure ever since his surgery (he didn't have high blood pressure prior to this). The receptionist refused to give him an appointment ~ told him to see his family doctor regarding this ~ that it wasn't a matter for a cardiologist. Butch has no family doc.. Butch was never sick until his mitral valve repair surgery last year. The snotty receptionist told him that he better find a family doc as they weren't going to be treating his high blood pressure. I now understand (once again) why people sue doctors.
Then Butch got a call from the ED doc (I assume a radiologist) who was calling him on his cell phone on his way home from a long shift and was told that he recommended that Butch get another chest X-ray as something showed up on his right lung (the one that he had the staff infection in and had surgery on) and he needed to get a better x-ray. The ED doc ordered the x-ray to be done bedside and the tech didn't take the leads off, even though Butch questioned that. Now they need a better x-ray to determine if it is actually a *spot* or just shadows from the leads. Butch has an appointment with a new pulmonary doc on Monday so am hoping that he orders the x-ray. Butch tried to call the pulmonary doc's office to see if they wanted to order the x-ray before he got there, but they don't have power either, so the office is closed and the *service* must have been overwhelmed since she had quite an attitude.
Monday evening Scooter (our son) brought his generator over to run our electric chain saw and he cut up the tree that tossed down a few large limbs and then hooked it up to our freezer, our refrigerator and a couple of lights, so we didn't lose much out of our freezers or the fridge, although I did toss anything that I wasn't sure about. So I now know how to run, fill and operator a small generator. (hhmmmm... do I put that on a resume?????)
Then last night we went to the county fair to see Kellie Pickler in concert and when we got home, it was like Christmas..... there were lights on in the houses on our side of the street!!!
I did want you all to know that we are fine, that we would still appreciate prayers for Butch's lung/x-ray/spot and that if I am not around much, I am just overwhelmed right now.
To keep this greyhound related, the dogs did fine although they weren't real excited about going out in the back yard with the generator running(Kota will be telling you all about the *big hyooge skary mean monstir inna bak yard*).

Good to see you posting again Gwen! Whenever you have trouble with a receptionist, DEMAND the doctor call you back. I'd want him to know anyway, so if I were you, I'd call the office back, total crap!

Hoping for a clean chest x-ray! And hoping things calm down for you guys soon!

I am glad things are retuning to a little more "normal." Our greys weren't real happy with the generator either and would cast a wary eye when they RAN past it. Please keep us updated on Butch.

Hope Butch can get in to have this BP checked and get new xrays just to be on the safe side.
Glas you have your power back on. No generator here but going to get one. Last two times we've had power outages we lost everything in the refers and freezer.

I'm glad your power is finally back on that that the Zu Kru are doing relatively ok. And I'm looking forward to Kota's comments on *big hyooge skary mean monstir inna bak yard*).
As for the *receptionist* I'm with Annette, that...hmmmm ?person?... needs to be reported. The cardiologist is the one who prescribed the medication Butch is taking now so he should have some interest in the problem.(small side bar, Mama's 'family doctor' sent her to a Nephrologist (sp?) so that doctor could write the prescription for her hypertension)I'm sending some more hugs for both of you and the Zu Kru since it sounds as though you still need them.

It's such a shame that you've had such a difficult time and it's been made worse by other people and their behaviour.

The obnoxious receptionist is unbelievable. Since her doctor prescribed the meds Butch is currently taking, it would be complete negligence if Butch has any complications.

I don't think I would give the receptionist any further information about Butch. Simply request a callback from the doctor and if she gives you a hard time suggest that if Butch has any complications because of her involvment in his medical care, she will be personally included in a lawsuit. Suggest to her that unless she went to medical school, it isn't her decision what care Butch requires.

It's been decided that I need a hip replacement. I'm getting pretty teed off with the behaviour of arrogant, obnoxious people. Surgeons and their staff are particularly "godlike". It's particularly awful because you have to deal with them when you and your loved ones are at your most vulnerable.

Pass on my best wishes to Butch. Hope all goes well.

You'll all be in my prayers.

Good to have you back Gwen. Sorry Butch had to go through so much of something you might expect to step in walking through a barnyard.

Kellie Pickler?????

Heck Michael, I don't need a barnyard.. my very own backyard often has a lot of that stuff that we appear to have waded through lately.

Yeah, Kellie Pickler... http://www.kelliepickler.com/splash/index.php

In fact, she wasn't feeling well Wednesday evening, performed with a sinus infection and still did one heck of a job. I see that she had to cancel her performance tonight and this weekend.
