Alergies

This is Bubba he's about two years old, got him from a free to good home ad on craigslist. Or rather his true owner did. I'm taking care of him for the next 6 1/2 months while his dad's out on deployment. So any other advice would be great since I've never owner nor researched boxers before.
Bubba has been peeling the skin from the pad of his foot. At first I though he was only doing it since I first caught him doing it in his kennel, but I've been seeing him from time to time doing it out of his kennel. Anyone shed some light on this?

Could be allergies or separation anxiety only a vet can tell you. Has he ever done it before to your knowledge?

We've only had him for about 3 months now, but no
He use to have what looked like rashes on his feet, but I've changed his diet and it's starting to grow fur back, so I'm not sure that's it's food alergies...
Someone told to me to try generic listerin, spray it on his feet to see if it's bactiral. Gonna try that next month. At the begining of the week I've started to add Appple cider vinger to see if it's yeast or fungel. Can't remember which one it's good for. but gonna see if that's any good first.
I just lost my job and don't have the money to go to a vet. his pad doesn't look bad, but it's still gross when he does it...
